19 Best Neck Creams 2022 to Treat Sagging Skin and Crepiness, According to Dermatologists

No matter how committed you are to your skin-care products, there’s one significant area many of us seem to forget: the décolletage. This delicate area — from the chin to the chest — is one of the first places on our bodies to develop signs of aging, which is why it deserves to be slathered only in one of the best neck creams that dermatologists (and Allure editors) adore.

“The neck area has thin, sensitive skin compared to other parts of the body,” Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, previously told Allure. “Combine that with gravity and the constant craning over smartphones, and it’s an area uniquely at risk for fine lines and sagging.” In other words, “tech neck” isn’t as much of a myth as we might have thought.

If you’ve noticed any difference in skin laxity around your neck and chest area, Los Angeles-based board-certified dermatologist James Y. Wang, MD, of Metropolis Dermatology says, first and foremost, to consult a dermatologist for an evaluation of any inflammation, lumps, and nodules. He adds that significantly loose skin likely requires procedural intervention, but neck creams can be beneficial for replenishing hydration and subtly decreasing the look of neck lines. Of course, this all depends on which ingredients are added to the formula.

Dr. Wang notes that retinol is a common additive to these moisturizers for its ability to promote collagen production, which is what makes it a crown-jewel ingredient for addressing the appearance of wrinkles. “This can help with skin sagging, wrinkles, and some crepiness,” he says. “Since the neck is a sensitive area, the retinol concentrations tend to be low and the results are subtle.” He also says peptides are a new area of exploration for neck creams, and the jury is still out on whether they are effective.

Whether you’re looking to temporarily tighten or address discoloration, there’s a slew of standout moisturizers, serums, and treatments that will help your skin snap back over time. And because we’re nothing if determined to help you achieve all your skin goals, we rounded up 19 dermatologist-approved creams you’ll definitely want to add to your cart.

Ariana Grande Revealed Her Cat-Eye Technique In the Most Hilarious Way — See Video

Ariana Grande is no fool in the makeup department. Having performed since she was little, the singer knows how to create a beautiful beat in more ways than one… But ask her to apply her signature winged liner in front of all of TikTok, and that’s a lot of pressure on those musical shoulders.

In the latest post she uploaded to the video-sharing platform, Grande introduces the video in a British accent, “‘Ello there team UK. Selfridges flight crew. ‘Ello… I’ve been asked to demonstrate my eyeliner technique.” As for the accent? “They also told me that it might be nice if I did an accent while I made this video,” she revealed. “It’s written here: Selfridges would like her to maybe use a cheeky British element i.e. accent, tea, etcetera. So here I am, butchering this accent. I’m so sorry.”

Back to the topic at hand, the eyeliner, “I don’t know if it’s a good technique – I didn’t promise that – but I said that I’d do it.” And she even invited viewers to show their own techniques, asking them to “duet – I think that’s what the children call it.”

There were a couple of things Ari wanted to clear up before she started: namely, the absence of her wedding ring. “I’m just not wearing my ring, it’s getting cleaned, I’m not getting a divorce, so before you start, don’t,” she playfully tells viewers (still in that British accent). As for getting a straight line, she holds the skin just below the end of her brow taut and admits “I know I’m not supposed to yank, I won’t. Just for now…I’m just gonna wing it and go.”

Cutting to the chase, the wing that Ari applied was immaculate. She started applying her liner at the end of the flick and sketched it straight inwards and across her lash-line in one effortless motion. Then, she went back in again to thicken it up. Her trick was to use the edge of her nail to clean up any outliers and make it look extra sleek.

Like the rest of us though, she held her breath, hoped for the best, and then looked pretty darn pleased after she smashed the first go. “Bloody hell, I’ve done it! It’s perfect. Oh my God,” she sobbed in mock tears.

The National Kids’ Mullet Championships Are Here, and This Is My Super Bowl — See Photos

We at Allure love a good underdog story, which is part of what makes the resurgence of mullets so much fun. The humble mullet, once the hairstyle of choice for hair metal bands and hockey players, has now become a capital-T trend. We’ve seen it on the rarefied heads of celebs like Billie Eilish, Zendaya, and Miley Cyrus. But you should never forget your roots, and that’s why we’re cheering for our new favorite elite athletes: the finalists of the 2022 USA Kids Mullet Championships.

Yes, sometimes we can have nice things, and this is one of them. And also yes, feel free to stop reading the rest of this article and just scroll down to see the beyond-adorable photos of these finalists, who exude both totally endearing and somewhat intimidating vibes. My hair certainly didn’t look this good at their age — it still doesn’t.

The annual mud-flap-judging competition began in Michigan in 2020, but it’s gone nationwide since killer neck warmers do not recognize state borders. As NPR noted, it only takes $10 to enter the competition (which goes to the Michigan Wig Foundation, a non-profit providing wigs for children experiencing hair loss), but one hopeful will take home $2,500.

People have voted all week for their favorite Kentucky waterfall (thank you, internet, for teaching me more mullet synonyms than I ever needed to know). As of the last day of voting, Friday, August 29, here are the top five contenders.

Aubrey Plaza Just Proved You Can Absolutely Do Updos With Bob Haircuts — See Photos

It’s official: Aubrey Plaza has earned herself the title of bob styling queen. After Plaza was photographed looking perfect in an undone bob in New York City last week — amid a heatwave, no less — the actor attended a Los Angeles screening of her upcoming film Spin Me Round in the most elegant loaded topknot updo we’ve ever laid eyes on.

This gorgeous style differs from Plaza’s usual look, which is essentially another modern take on the effortless, Renaissance-inspired Botticelli bob. Her new look still highlights her signature side bangs and face-framing S-curls. So, Plaza pretty much just singlehandedly proved that side bangs and parts are very much cool again. (Do you hear that, Gen Z?!

The Happiest Season star complemented her topknot with gold hoop earrings and a deep-V-neck minidress. BRB, we’re running to copy this whole look immediately.

This is the chicest loaded topknot we’ve ever seen.

Plaza’s loaded topknot is especially timely. All sorts of bob styles are going viral this year, including the cool-girl Scandi bob, heatwave-friendly curly bob, and their cousins, the blunt bob and wavy lob. Bob enthusiasts are also actively seeking stylish ways to wear their short hair in updos. The end result of this phenomenon has been a resurgence in the mid-2010s era loaded topknot, both because it’s been spotted on celebs — Kaia Gerber, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lopez, and Hailey Bieber have worn the style — as well as how easy it is to style yourself.

“The beauty of this look is in its effortlessness, as it’s super easy to create yet still manages to look chic,” Cliphair trends writer Brenda Lee Intignano said of the topknot. Unless, of course, you want to take Plaza’s more put-together look, which actually has a bit of a bridal vibe. That’s the beauty of the loaded topknot, though: It’s incredibly versatile, and there is truly no “right” way to wear it. Most importantly, however, the updo proves that contrary to popular belief, you can still style short hair in an updo. All you might need are a few bobby pins.

17 Best Drugstore Foundations 2022 That Professional Makeup Artists Swear by

As beauty writers and editors, our standards are high (sometimes unrealistically so) when it comes to our products. But that doesn’t mean they have to be pricey, because the best drugstore foundations seamlessly lay the groundwork for all of our other makeup products.

As much as we love a good no-makeup day, sometimes we want the extra coverage to even out our complexions and to act as a base for the rest of our cosmetics routines. But not all foundations can get the job done without creasing, caking, or flaking — the marker of a great foundation is one you can’t really tell is there, after all. And while it’d be great if we could bathe ourselves in luxurious formulations with $50+ price tags, our wallets aren’t always as big of fans as we are.

You might be of the mentality that you get what you pay for with makeup, but that’s definitely not true — at least, not anymore, thanks to these picks from Allure Best of Beauty-winning brands like Blk/Opl and CoverGirl. Throw away your preconceived notions about drugstore base makeup, because we’re here to give them the hype they deserve.

Allow us to introduce tried-and-true (and expert-vetted) favorites. Cheers to a shopping guide that won’t break the bank. Below are the 17 best drugstore foundations, according to makeup artists and beauty editors.

All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

9 Best CeraVe Skin-Care Products 2022 to Nourish and Treat All Skin Types | Dermatologist Recommendations

Let’s not beat around the bush. When it comes to skin care, it’s easy to judge a book by its cover. A product with standout packaging is way more likely to get “ooh’d” and “aah’d” over than a standard pump bottle. That being said, every so often we come across a line where we’re willing to accept its more minimal packaging in exchange for simple formulas. One such brand that’s dominated the skin-care industry despite having a more, dare we say, clinical look to it, is CeraVe

There’s a reason why CeraVe gets recommended by dermatologists and experts in the biz time and time again — it’s because the brand actually works alongside dermatologists to develop products. And what better way to create intentionally-formulated serums, moisturizers, and cleansers than by going straight to the source who knows the ins and outs of skin?

Don’t get us wrong — we love a good viral skin-care product as much as the next #TikTokSkincare lover. But sometimes we like our skin care how we like our wardrobe: back to the basics. And more often than not, the experts agree with this phenomenon, citing CeraVe as the way to achieve that, particularly if you have finicky skin. (In fact, we’ve seen plenty of them praise the brand on TikTok — confirming you don’t always need the latest and greatest on the market.)

“CeraVe is a commonly recommended brand in my practice, especially for acne patients and patients with eczema,” says Juliya Fisher, MD, a double board-certified dermatologist in Manhattan, New York. “The products are formulated with three essential ceramides to help with barrier repair, which tends to be compromised in eczema patients.” With CeraVe, you don’t have to worry about potentially irritating your skin, as all of the products are non-comedogenic and made without fragrance, parabens, or sulfates.

Plus, several of the products in the line have been accepted by the National Eczema Association, notes Kiran Mian, a CeraVe partner and board-certified dermatologist based in New York City — yet another reason why sensitive skin types adore this drugstore brand. TL;DR: from the Hydrating Facial Cleanser to the Resurfacing Retinol Serum, CeraVe offers everything your skin needs and nothing it doesn’t — and it manages to do so at an attainable price point.

While you certainly won’t get Tatcha-like packaging or luxurious-feeling formulas (Charlotte Tilbury, anyone?), what you will get are ultra-gentle products that work well for all skin types and can be used either as part of your everyday routine or after an intensive skin-care treatment like microneedling. Along with the no-fuss packaging, the product names are also straightforward and easy to remember — which can be especially helpful if you’re just dipping your toes into the confusing world of skin care.

Keep reading to find the best products from CeraVe that you’re going to want to add to your skin-care stash, stat.

Medicube Is Turning Seoul’s Trendiest Skin Treatments into At-Home Devices — Reviews, Photos

The small, handheld device is actually part of Medicube’s effort to bring the best of Korean skin-care innovations directly to your bathroom — no matter where in the world you may be or what your level of skin-care expertise is.

Kim started Medicube back in 2014, and its products have since won Allure Korea Best of Beauty Awards and count dozens of K-pop stars as fans. Over the past eight years, “I tried to develop better and better products for skin, but at some point, I felt like there’s a limit to what you can do with skin care,” Kim tells Allure in his first-ever U.S. interview.

Many dermatologists from here to South Korea will tell you the same thing too. Once, while interviewing a dermatologist in Seoul, they admitted that no skin-care product is truly as effective as a laser treatment. With this in mind, Kim began researching what exactly Korean celebrities do to take care of their skin beyond their product regimens, he says.

Medicube owns a dermatology clinic in Seoul’s Gangnam neighborhood, so Kim also worked directly with dermatologists to find out about Korea’s most popular in-office procedures, like Ultratherapy, InMode, microneedling, and acupressure massages. Curious about how exactly they all worked, Kim even tried them all out for himself. “I wanted to see if they were actually more effective than our skin-care products,” he says. In the process, he learned just how greatly electrical stimulation can improve skin. From there, Kim had a mission to bring the best skin-care technology that Korean celebrities swear by for clear, glowing complexions to at-home skin-care routines.

Of course, Kim acknowledges procedures done at dermatology clinics are extremely effective. He’s also well aware that the at-home skin-care device industry is nothing new. However, “not everyone can afford the time and money to get [in-office treatments] done,” he says. “And a lot of at-home devices that are already on the market have mostly a placebo effect.”

Plus, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t even do its own testing on American at-home skin-care tools, so many have unsubstantiated claims for their efficacy, according to Corey L. Hartman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Birmingham, Alabama. “[The FDA is] relying on existing testing, plus what the company provides as testing,” he previously told Allure.

JoJo Siwa Debuted a Mullet on TikTok — See Video

JoJo Siwa transformed her hair into a mullet for the algorithm. In a TikTok posted on Monday, August 15, the 19-year-old debuted a blonde mullet hairstyle — short hair in the front and on the sides but longer (in Siwa’s case, much longer) in the back. She made faces and lip-synched to the audio that said, “What fuck? Did you just call me ‘mullet daddy?'”

“It’s giving…” Siwa wrote in the post’s caption, followed by a series of cowboy emojis. In a TikTok video posted earlier, Siwa introduced the hairstyle from the inside of her car. The video contains the same audio. In that post, the caption is simply the blonde child emoji.

Siwa fans had a field day with their reactions, comparing the do to those of Billy Ray Cyrus, David Spade’s Joe Dirt (with some fans calling her JoJo Dirt), and Joe Exotic of Netflix’s Tiger King (just when I had completely erased that show from my brain). Will Siwa turn the mullet into her once iconic, now gone ponytail

Back in April, the Dance Moms alum chopped off her signature blonde ponytail in favor of a pixie cut that is now the mullet. On Instagram, Siwa shared a video of the ponytail being snipped off. “Mayyyyy have done something todayyyy,” Siwa captioned the post. The following day she posted the final look, a pixie cut with shaved sides and loose curls on top.
